Depending on your arrival time, you can explore some of Kathmandu’s cultural and historical landmarks, such as Durbar Square, the Swayambhunath Stupa, or Thamel's bustling streets. In the evening, there will be a pre-trek briefing to discuss the details of the journey ahead.
Your trekking adventure officially begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola, a journey that takes about 7-8 hours. The drive takes you through lush green hills, terraced fields, and charming villages, offering a glimpse of rural Nepal. You’ll follow the Trishuli River and then the Budhi Gandaki River, eventually reaching Soti Khola, a small village by the river, where you’ll spend the night in a local guesthouse.
The first day of trekking starts with a trek from Soti Khola to Machha Khola. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, winding through dense forests, terraced fields, and small villages. You’ll cross several suspension bridges and pass by waterfalls and rocky ridges. The day’s trek is moderately challenging, with a mix of ascents and descents. Machha Khola, located at an altitude of 930 meters, is a small village where you’ll stay overnight.
Leaving Machha Khola, you’ll continue trekking along the river, passing through the village of Khorlabesi and reaching Tatopani, known for its natural hot springs. From Tatopani, the trail climbs steeply before crossing the river again and leading to the village of Jagat, at 1,410 meters. Jagat is a beautiful stone-paved village and the entry point to the Manaslu Conservation Area, where your permits will be checked. You’ll spend the night here in a local guesthouse.
Today’s trek from Jagat to Deng takes you deeper into the Manaslu region. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through lush forests and terraced fields. Deng, situated at 1,804 meters, is a small village where you’ll stay overnight, experiencing the local culture and hospitality.

Leaving Namrung, you’ll trek towards Samagaun, one of the most significant villages in the region. The trail ascends through forests of rhododendron and pine, offering panoramic views of the mountains, including Manaslu and Himal Chuli. You’ll pass through the villages of Lho and Shyala, each providing stunning viewpoints and opportunities to visit local monasteries. Samagaun, at 3,530 meters, is a beautiful village surrounded by majestic peaks, serving as an excellent base for acclimatization.
Today is dedicated to acclimatization and exploration in Samagaun. You can take a leisurely hike to Birendra Lake, a glacial lake located near the village, or visit the Pungyen Gompa, a traditional monastery with stunning views of Manaslu. If you’re feeling adventurous, an optional hike to Manaslu Base Camp is available. The hike is challenging but rewarding, offering breathtaking views of the Manaslu Glacier and the surrounding peaks. It’s essential to take it easy and allow your body to adjust to the altitude.
Leaving Samagaun, you’ll trek to Samdo, a village situated at 3,875 meters. The trail gradually ascends, following the Budhi Gandaki River and passing through juniper and birch forests. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Manaslu and other surrounding peaks. Samdo, located near the Tibetan border, is a remote village with a rich cultural heritage, offering insights into the traditional lifestyle of the Tibetan-influenced local community.
Today’s trek takes you to Dharamsala, also known as Larkya Phedi, the base camp for crossing the Larkya La Pass. The trail ascends steadily, passing through arid landscapes and high-altitude pastures. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including Larkya Peak and Manaslu. Dharamsala, situated at 4,460 meters, offers basic accommodations and a chance to rest and prepare for the challenging pass crossing the next day.
The highlight of your trek is crossing the Larkya La Pass, one of the highest and most challenging passes in the region, at an altitude of 5,160 meters.
